Disney’s Magic Kingdom Welcomes Princess Tiana
Princess Tiana makes her official Magic Kingdom debut at Disney World with a special welcome and Showboat Jubilee
The prince dude is in no way Black.
so close disney. sooooo close.
With that said, at least her name isn’t Keisha and she’s not rocking a scarf. Baby steps I suppose.
Taina looks beautiful.
I have a personal bias, yes, but I’m just as happy that the Prince isn’t black as I would be if he were. As rare as it is to see a strong black couple portrayed specifically for our children, it’s a good percentage rarer to see a strong interracial couple (black woman, *insert other race here* male, especially). As a mixed person, and as the mother of so mixed they’re just confused daughters, this is good for my girls. My relationships with their father and with Joey are the only interracial relationship they’ve ever seen, but there are plenty of black couples around them.
This Disney pairing not only represents that black women are beautiful and worthy of that elusive Disney glory too, but that people don’t have to both be brown, or white, or whatever. They can be all mixed up and just as wonderful.
(That was me looking at the bright side. I see the other one too.)
