My mom and grandmother hate my hair when it’s big and curly. I’m not sure what exactly they want me to do differently, but I really don’t care. They are always making comments, saying things like it’s ‘too much’ or I look ‘straight outta Africa’ or if they hear someone else compliment it they have to negate it with some sort of jab. I tell them ‘it’s my hair. it’s healthy, i love it, and you worry about your own hair’.
Sometimes I like to wear it straight, but right now, I’m in a big and free zone and I’m comfortable here (also, flat ironing it is a pain in the ass). They, and anyone else who doesn’t absolutely love it, can stuff it. My damn hair.
